End of Year Spiritual Housekeeping
Letting Go with Love & Compassion
This is part one of a two part stand-alone workshop series built around my two favourite winter rituals of Letting Go, at the end of the year, and Calling In; at the beginning of the new year.
What is letting go? The yoga sutras have a lot to say about letting go; Aparigraha is one of the 5 Yamas from Patanjalis 8 limbs of yoga. Letting Go is also one of the Attitudes of Mindfulness. Letting go is a practice that is essential if we are to free ourselves of the past and open to what is here, now, and what is waiting to come in. But how easy is it to let go? What does it feel like in our bodies? And what is the difference between letting go and letting be? Somatically, psychospiritually? Practically?
The stage for this enquiry is the body where our truth and our experience unfolds; where we carry the burden of old conditioning like a heavy old coat that weighs us down and holds us back. Through focused mental work, we will look at he conscious patterns and mental habits we carry, how they are reflected in the body, and why it might be time to bring the light of loving conscious awareness to them so that we may accept who we are and also be free to co-create who we wish to become.
In this workshop we will explore what it is that we cling to and why? What it is that we struggle to let go of? We will look at old habits, perceptions and ideas about who we are and who we think we should be. We will explore our relationship with those parts of ourselves and those aspects of our lives that we would like to let go of and explore healthy ways to approach letting go and letting be.
Though this spiritual house-keeping work can be done at anytime, this is a beautiful practice and ritual to mark the end of the year.
Through somatic movement and yogic practices, through mediation and self-enquiry we will explore what it means to let go and what it means to let be. The workshop will culminate with a fire ritual to cement the inner work we have done with an external ritual – a candle and a bin will suffice if no fire available.
