Return to the Centre Yoga Workshop & Gong Bath Eel Pie Island

Saturday January 13, 2024

Join Nadia Raafat and Candice Joyce this January on the beautiful Eel Pie Island in the River Thames at Twickenham.

At the start of the new year, after the celebrations are over, it is time to remember our centre.  Finding our centre both physically and spiritually is central to yoga practice. When we find our centre on one level we feel balanced and harmonious; physically we feel integrated; at a deeper level we return to our source.

This is the womb of our earth, the place where we find sustenance, medicine and healing but also the place of inner wisdom and knowing. With each journey back to the centre, we forget it less.

In these uncertain easily distracted times, it becomes more important than ever to have a centre to return to within ourselves’ to remember who we are and what we are here to do.

In this workshop, Nadia will take you on a journey through the body, exploring structural centres, moving from the centre and experiencing layers of centre carried by the breath, drumming, and visualisation to that place within ourselves we experience as home. Here we grow roots into ourselves; we find stability and simultaneously liberation.

After the yoga and meditation, Candice Joyce will close the workshop with a beautiful candle-lit gong bath creating a sea of vibration for us all to be carried on. She says of the experience: “The deeply meditative relaxation experience of the gong bath follows the yoga workshop to enhance the rejuvenating and calming effects of Savasana. The vibration of the Gong calms the nervous system, stimulates the vagus nerve and promotes a theta brain wave state enabling space for inspiration, creativity and peace.’

This will be a wonderful opportunity to come together with old friends, make new ones, connect with ourselves and each other and remember our unity and community.

We hope you will join us in the New Year at this very special place.

About Eel Pie Island

Eel Pie Island is a small private island accessed via a footbridge from Twickenham riverside and across the water from Richmond. It is home to a large artist’s community and an array of wonderfully eccentric and curious properties as well as a really colourful rock n roll history. At Springtime, the Island is lush and covered in flowers – a wonderful place to spend an afternoon connecting with nature and welcoming spring into our own bodies and minds.

It is easily accessible by all forms of transport; walking distance from Twickenham station and a stones throw from the High Street, served by many bus routes. Metered parking is also widely available.

I look forward to celebrating Yoga, Community and Winter-time with you there.
